At People for Peregrines, we are committed to conserving this rare, beautiful and iconic species. We have identified where measures can be taken to protect peregrines further:
- Training and education:
Training of Ecological Consultants: one of the things we do is to run training courses for professional ecologists in surveying and mitigating for peregrine falcons in relation to development.
- Policy and advocacy:
Demolition of Tall buildings: we campaign to protect peregrines in urban areas, in particular by having a screening within the Planning System of demolition of high rise buildings prior to demolition. At present, this is rarely done, sometimes with consequences of loss of traditional nest sites and disturbance to birds in the breeding season, causing nest failure.
- Defending peregrines in urban areas: we note with concern moves by individuals within the pigeon racing community in relation to siting of raptor nest boxes. Something for us all to be aware of and address as necessary.
